What I meant to write is why not just eliminate any kind of tax exempt status for any kind of organization? This tax deduction was set up originally so that the newly-imposed income tax wouldn't affect the mega-wealthy, thus we get the big foundations which have been "shaping" the country ever since, much to its demise.
